WHAT CAN I EXPECT TO DO WHEN VISITING?

We have two facilities.

MEDURE HISTORY ANNEX: you can visit at no charge. No reservations required

  • Many Military items and Sports Hall of Fame photo exhibit on display
  • Books are available for purchase
  • Individuals can research documents at no charge

THE CLAVELLI CULTURAL HERITAGE CENTER (Museum) – Advance reservations are required to tour.

  • Docent led tours are available for $5 per person
  • Tours are by appointment only. Available on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

WHAT IS THE MAXIMUM GROUP SIZE FOR TOURS?

  • There are no minimum or maximum group numbers
  • However, advance reservations are required prior to the date of the tour so we can have docents on site

DISPLAYS

IS THERE A SHENANGO CHINA DISPLAY?

  • A number of items are on view in the 1st floor dining room at the Clavelli Cultural Heritage Center (Museum)
  • Additionally, there is an entire exhibit room on the 2nd floor with unique Shenango item pieces such as commemorative pieces, special event pieces and more

DO YOU HAVE ANYTHING FOCUSED ON NATIVE AMERICANS FROM THIS AREA?

  • Yes, we have an entire exhibit room on the 2nd floor of Clavelli Cultural Heritage Center (Museum)

RESEARCH

INDEPENDENT RESEARCH
Persons wishing to conduct research in the Medure History Annex can do so at their convenience. There is no charge for unassisted research.
Copies are 50 cents per page

ASSISTANCE with RESEARCH
Reservations for research assistance are strongly suggested otherwise we may not have staff available to provide assistance.

Assistance with research is $10 per hour after a 15 minute free period. If you are looking for someone to help with the research, you need to call ahead of time and identify what you are looking for in the way of documentation. This allows us to do some of the research prior to your appointment and to have a researcher on site to assist.

The Clavelli Center (Museum) is handicap accessible on the 1st floor only.
The Medure History Annex is handicap accessible.

IS FOOD PERMITTED IN THE MUSEUM?
No food or drink permitted.

WHAT FACILITIES ARE ON SITE?
Bathroom on 1st floor of Clavelli and Medure Annex. Water is free.

IS THERE A LIBRARY I CAN USE?
Only the library in the Medure History Annex can be used. In addition, the New Castle Public Library is close by and has some historical information we do not have.

CAN I TAKE PICTURES/VIDEOS?
Absolutely.

FACILITY RENTAL

CAN I RENT the Clavelli Cultural Heritage Center (Museum)?

  • Our historic mansion is available for a variety of special events. You do not need to be a member of the Society to rent the facility.

  • The parking lot at the Lawrence County Historical Society has 12 spaces of free parking for visitor use when spaces are available
  • On-street parking is also available
